Where and how to vote?
Primary method.
Voters in Cyprus have to vote in person in a specific polling station based on their home address. Information about a person’s allocated polling station is published 15 days before the elections ( http://elections.gov.cy/moi/elections/elections.nsf/elections01ag_el/elections01ag_el?OpenDocument). Voting is compulsory for nationals and also for non-Cypriots who are registered in Cyprus.
Alternative method.
Voters cannot vote by mail, proxy nor online in Cyprus; only in-person voting is allowed.
Polling day requirements
Voters need to bring either their identity or voting card to the polling station. The same requirements apply to both nationals and mobile EU citizens.
Who can vote?
General.
An individual must meet the following requirements to vote in EP elections in Cyprus :
- hold Cypriot citizenship or be a citizen of another EU Member State;
- be at least 18 years of age;
- not be excluded from voting
Mobile EU citizens.
EU citizens must be habitually resident in Cyprus and must have done so for a period of at least 6 months. Any period spent residing in another EU country is also taken into account.

Nationals. Voters should register in the District Administrations, the Citizens Service Centres or the District Post Offices within 30 days of becoming eligible in order to vote. In particular, citizens up to 25 years of age have to submit an application to be registered and they can do so online () Older citizens, on the other hand, are subject to an interview with the District Administration Officer and are required to submit social security document to demonstrate their residence in Cyprus, as well as additional proof of their address.
In the last elections, voters abroad could vote in voting centres established in selected Eu countries including Greece and Belgium . A voter wanting to do so must submit a form to express their desire to vote abroad before the deadline fixed by the election authority
Mobile EU citizens. EU citizens must register to vote. As part of the registration process, mobile EU citizens submit a declarations confirming that they have not forfeited their voting rights in their home country and that they will only exercise their right to vote in Cyprus.
Exclusions.
Mobile EU citizens do not have the right to vote in European elections in Cyprus of they have been deprived of the right to vote in their home country. Cyprus does not impose restrictions on the rights of prisoners to vote.
